What’s the Situation? 1Room is running a school based in rural Kisumu, Kenya. We are targeting students who have had to drop out of school due to situations out of their hand. Reasons vary such as parents passing away, having to work to help feed the family, or simply not being able to afford the annual cost of public secondary schools.
This is where you can help us. We hope to give these students a chance to get a quality education at a price they can afford. Starting last month, January 2017 our yearly tuition is set at $120 or $10 a month. The tuition of the students goes directly back into the program by paying our staff and building a better school through developing projects, homework assignments and video content made by local Kenyan teachers.
Why Donate? We are in a crucial phase for the school. We do not have all the content produced yet and as a result can not ask the students to pay the full price of $10 a month. Your donation will be a one time contribution to invest in the students and our program. This allows us to learn and collect data from the students about our process to continually improve it. We hope by 2018 we can offer a complete package of a school that lets students feel they are getting their money worth.
Connect With Us We hope those that donate would like to learn more about out students. To help develop their IT skills the students will create a small personal profile and email. This allows you to be in direct contact with the students.
Any amount of donation is helpful as $5 will help a student stay in school for another month. Thank you and together we can make education within reach. Contributions are made through either Partners for International Development (Canada) or Open Learning Exchange (USA).
